Update to rekordbox (ver. 6.1.1) brings new Edit mode and TIDAL support
Create your own edits of tracks and play high-quality music from additional platform
Explore new creative territory with the latest update to rekordbox: ver. 6.1.1. Enhancements to the software include the brand-new Edit mode in the Creative plan – which enables you to easily make custom versions of tracks – and support for global music streaming and entertainment platform TIDAL.
You can try Edit mode, as well as the recently added Vocal Position Detection feature, for free for one month from the launch – even if you’ve used a rekordbox free trial before.
All-new Edit mode: tailor tracks to suit your set
Even if you’ve never edited music before, you can use the new mode in rekordbox to easily create a custom version of any track you own*1 when you subscribe to the Creative plan.
Want to extend the intro or outro of a song to give you more time to mix or scratch? Keen to cut out the breaks so the energy stays high? It’s quick and simple to remove or loop sections of the music and you can do it all inside rekordbox; there’s no need to export tracks to an external DAW (digital audio workstation) and re-import them to your library.
Use the Beatgrid as a handy guide when you’re selecting the parts of the music you want to edit and keep an eye on the familiar rekordbox waveform for reference. The intuitive editing process includes the Palette function so you can temporarily store parts of a track you’re working on, making it quick and easy to get things sounding the way you want. Save your progress as a project file and you can return to it and make more changes to the track whenever you like. Then, when it’s ready, export it as an audio file to your library and play it in your set immediately.
Support for TIDAL: mix music from the streaming platform
Link rekordbox to your TIDAL account (subscription required) and, in Performance mode*2, you can introduce high-quality music from the streaming service into your sets. TIDAL offers a rich catalog, with more than 60 million songs available to stream and thousands of expertly curated playlists in most territories.
rekordbox integrates seamlessly with the platform so you can browse “My Collection” – including playlists, albums, and tracks saved in your TIDAL account – from inside rekordbox. You can also find inspiration from the genres and moods playlists compiled by TIDAL and search through the platforms robust music catalogue as well as more than 250,000 high quality videos, then mix it with the files in your rekordbox library. You can even choose whether you want to play TIDAL songs in AAC format or the high-quality FLAC file type (HiFi membership required).
TIDAL is the latest streaming service to be supported by rekordbox, which also integrates with Beatport LINK, Beatsource LINK, and SoundCloud Go+.
If you have a Hardware Unlock device, you can use Performance mode with any subscription plan, including the Free plan. See the list of Hardware Unlock devices here.
*1 Tracks from streaming services such as TIDAL, Beatport LINK, Beatsource LINK, and SoundCloud Go+ cannot be edited or exported as audio files from Edit mode.
*2 Music distributed by TIDAL can only be used in rekordbox Performance mode and not Export mode or Link Export mode. It’s not possible to import music from TIDAL to the rekordbox sampler, and the recording and Capture features can’t be used when tracks from the streaming service are playing.
To use TIDAL tracks in rekordbox Performance mode (available for free when you control it via your computer), you’ll need to subscribe to TIDAL. Find out more about TIDAL and see a list of countries where it can be used (as of July 2020).
