Music media have rapidly shifted from vinyl records and CDs to digital audio files.
By playing with digital audio files, DJs can carry a vast array of music to every gig. But this can make it more difficult to quickly choose the right tracks to play in a set.
In this evolving digital era, rekordbox is there to support DJs.
By exporting songs and music management data stored on a PC/Mac to a USB storage device,
which is then loaded onto a CDJ, rekordbox creates an environment where DJs can efficiently select tracks and focus on their performance.
rekordbox works like an operating system,
seamlessly supporting new workflows for DJs.
rekordbox was developed to support all aspects of the DJ workflow – preparation, performing, and reviewing.
The first version of rekordbox was designed as a music organization platform that worked with the CDJ-2000 and CDJ-900, and was bundled with the hardware. It featured intuitive operation, a simple interface, and many innovative functions.
In ver. 3, a new function for instant and optimal music selection was added, and the GUI was redesigned to be more intuitive.
With the added features in ver. 4, rekordbox evolved to offer performance capabilities too.
The GUI was completely redesigned and rebuilt based on the concept of “complete browsing for DJs,”
and included various functions such as Related Tracks, My Tag, Playlist Pallet, and Matching.
Plus Packs made additional performance features available, including innovative new pad effects, RMX effects, sequence samples, DVS control, video performance functions, and more.

The Related Tracks feature was introduced to make recommendations for DJs. It's a helpful tool for professional DJs who have a lot of music to choose from.
In ver. 5, we improved the basic software performance to make it lighter and more stable.
In ver. 6, we made it possible to link rekordbox with cloud storage and streaming services.
This enables access anytime and anywhere to music libraries that used to be separate on different devices.
This version included the option to DJ directly from streaming services such as Beatport LINK and SoundCloud Go+. Also, browsing was upgraded to a more intuitive GUI.
The Cloud Library Sync feature, which can be accessed from anywhere in the world on multiple devices, was added to provide a seamless cloud DJ experience. The system also introduced an AI technology-based vocal analysis function and Edit mode.

rekordbox is being developed with an eye on the media and devices that are likely to become popular in the DJ industry.
rekordbox has evolved drastically, and now incorporates AI, cloud, and automation technology. Significant improvements in performance, such as reduced processing load, have been realized.
The built-in AI has the ability to automatically set cue points and DJs can share playlists with peers.
From managing songs to preparing for gigs, everything is easier and more comfortable to use.
